What I made in my Garden

When I shifted to my own house from Delhi, I renovated the house and removed all Cuddapah Black Stones, which were used as cupboard racks.  These stones were lying in the Terrace unused. Cuddapah stones are quite cheap when compared to other stones. I used these unused stones and cut it in different sizes and made various size of boxes using stay wires & white cement.

My 550 Watt Skil Drilling Machine helped me to make holes at the corners of some stones shown here to tie with each other with stay wire. In the process the Drilling Machine got damaged but got it repaired with just Rs.60/- luckily. I got advise from the Mechanic not to use 550 Watt Skil Drilling Machine to make hole of Cuddapah Stones, since this stone is quite strong & heavy.  My wife & children helped me to make these boxes.  Water absorption level of these stone is 1% only and I hope it won't absorb water meant for plants.

I purchased black colour plastic rolling sheets from Broadway Market in George Town, Chennai @ Rs.13 per mtr.(6 ft. width) after visiting so many shops situated in various streets of Broadway Market, but these sheets are available in Anderson Street, just opposite to Broadway MTC Bus Terminus. In the process I took a walk of 4 KMs.

Before keeping the stone box, I put empty polypropylene cement bags and on top I laid black polythene sheets.

Finally I filled up with the mixture of red soil,  compost & sand and transplanted tomato and chilli plants and sowed carrot, beetroot, radish, khol khol.  Also sowed cabbage & cauliflower.

I am making green house on my terrace.  Hopefully it will be ready by next week. I believe this will help me to grow cool climate plants like radish, cauliflower, cabbage etc. and protect from the scorching heat of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.  I will update further about the development shortly. Till then bye.
